Pakistan on Tuesday arrested a senior Yemeni al-Qaeda leader Mohammad Ali alias Shoaib al-Makki in Karachi who has been working directly under the leaders of the terror group along the volatile AfPak region.
“According to preliminary investigations, al-Makki is a Yemeni national and has been working directly under Al-Qaeda leaders along Pak-Afghan borders,” the Pakistani military’s media wing said.
“The arrest (in Karachi) of al-Makki is a major development in unravelling the al-Qaeda network operating in the region,” it said.
After the killing of Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad, al-Makki is the top leader to have fallen in the net.
