World monuments turn blue for UN day

The Great Wall of China, the pyramids of Giza, New Delhi’s Red Fort, the temples of Baalbek in Lebanon were lit up in blue as part of the "Turn the World UN Blue" global campaign.

The Great Wall of China is lit up in blue to mark the 70th anniversary of the United Nations.

The Great Wall of China is lit up in blue to mark the 70th anniversary of the United Nations.

Edinburgh Castle was lit blue to join iconic landmarks in the world to celebrate the United Nations’ 70th anniversary. Other monuments around the world including the Great Wall of China, the pyramids of Giza, New Delhi’s Red Fort, the temples of Baalbek in Lebanon were also lit up in blue as part of the "Turn the World UN Blue" global campaign.

Scottish Culture, Europe and External Affairs Secretary Fiona Hyslop, said: “While we celebrate the UN’s 70th anniversary, we know that more work is required by all of us to fulfil the promise of a life in peace and dignity for all that the UN stands for. Scotland shares the UN’s value and goals and is committed to promoting them.”
