At least two Ukrainian soldiers were killed and 13 wounded in attacks by pro-Russian separatist militias in eastern Ukraine over the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian military command said on Wednesday.

A command statement on Facebook claimed that the pro-Russian separatists “did not cease their attempts to undermine the situation to destroy the fragile peace in eastern Ukraine”. According to the Ukrainian military, the militias violated the ceasefire agreed in September 43 times over the past 24 hours.

In one incident, the separatists fired Grad rockets at Ukrainian units defending the strategic Bajmutka road.

The statement added that the battle around the airport in Donetsk continued overnight and that despite numerous attempts by the militias to capture the strategic spot, Ukrainian troops held their positions.
