Suspected Politkovskaya’s killer arrested

Politkovskaya was internationally renowned for her reports on violence, police oppression and human rights violations in Chechnya and other regions of the Russian Caucasus gripped by an Islamic insurgency.

Russian officials say the suspected triggerman in the 2006 killing of journalist Anna Politkovskaya has been arrested.

The arrest of Rustam Makhmudov in Chechnya was reported on Tuesday by Vladimir Markin, a spokesman for Russia’s Investigative Committee.

Politkovskaya was internationally renowned for her reports on violence, police oppression and human rights violations in Chechnya and other regions of the Russian Caucasus gripped by an Islamic insurgency.

She was gunned down in her Moscow apartment building.
