Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has vowed to make the nation a polio-free country in the next six months by vaccinating each and every child against the crippling disease.

Mr. Sharif’s comment came during a high-level meeting on the subject in Islamabad.

According to a government statement, Mr. Sharif warned that he would not tolerate negligence during an anti-polio campaign that Pakistan plans to launch this month.

Since January, Pakistan has detected 235 polio cases, a record figure. Pakistan blames it on militants, who regularly target vaccination teams.
