Hostages in French town Roubaix safe

November 25, 2015 03:39 am | Updated 03:59 am IST - PARIS

A hostage-taking situation in the northern French town of Roubaix has ended and the hostages have been “secured”, local officials said.

The prefecture of the Nord region said that all hostages were safe after the hours-long incident on Tuesday night. It didn’t say where the incident took place, how many people had been held or how many hostage-takers had been involved.

Local media reported the hostage-taking was not terrorism-related but the result of a possible robbery, although reports on the motive were conflicting. Media reports indicated shots had been fired at police at the start of the hostage-taking.

Police special forces were deployed to the area and local roads were temporarily cordoned off during the incident.
