More than 16,000 people gathered together for the International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21 at the Al Wasl Sports Club, making it one of the largest congregations of people for an event.

The event was marked by several speeches given by attending guests, a yoga wave and mass of helium balloons that were released to kick off the yoga session.

“Today, we celebrate Yoga. It is a wonderful support to the mind, soul and peace,” said Major General Al Razooqi, president of the UAE Karate and Taekwondo Federation.

Among the dignitaries present were boxing champion Mary Kom, Yoga exponents A.J. Mohan and Maryam Ovissi and the Consul General of India Anurag Bhushan.
