Nepal's Peace Minister Rakam Chemjong on Saturday accused the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) and the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) of not cooperating in the peace process.
Mr. Chemjong said it was not right for the Maoists to claim that peace process was possible only under their leadership. The major opposition party, the Maoists, have been demanding a new government under their leadership to complete the peace process and write a pro-people constitution. Mr. Chemjong said such a demand would only create difficulties in managing the Maoists' army, the People's Liberation Army (PLA).
Mr. Chemjong also charged UNMIN which monitors Nepal Army and the PLA with not supporting the peace process. The government had asked from UNMIN details of the Maoist combatants living in the cantonments. But the U.N. forum refused to give the list. “The document could help us in the peace process,” Mr. Chemjong said.
