Panama Papers: Mossack Fonseca warehouse raided

Mossack Fonseca says it sends materials to the facility for recycling and any information there had already been digitised and handed over to prosecutors.

Panamanian officials have raided a warehouse of the law firm >Mossack Fonseca , which has been at the centre of the huge document leak related to offshore accounts.

Special prosecutor for organised crime Javier Caraballo says large quantities of documents related to the company were found, but it’s not clear what information they contain. Agents carried off multiple bags of shredded paper.

Mossack Fonseca said in a statement on Friday that it sends materials to the facility for recycling and any information there had already been digitised and handed over to prosecutors.

The firm’s main office was searched last week.

The leak known as the Panama Papers encompassed millions of documents related to shell companies and >offshore accounts set up by Mossack Fonseca for wealthy and powerful clients around the world.
