At least 14 people were killed and 40 injured after a crowded bus crashed into vehicles and houses, media reports said Saturday.

The bus reportedly went out of control on a downhill slope near Cisarua market in Bogor, just outside of Jakarta. It hit a utility pole, cutting off electricity in the immediate area.

“The bus may have lost its brake when it hit other buses,” police spokesman for West Java province Martinus Sitompul was quoted by Kompas daily.
