Summer festival to be held at Yercaud

The uncertainty over holding of summer festival in the hill station of Yercaud this year was set at rest, with the district administration deciding to hold the festival as usual this year too.

With the district reeling under severe drought conditions, there was doubt among the official machinery and the local public alike on holding the summer festival this summer.

The District Collector, V. Sampath, held a preliminary meeting with officials of various government departments to discuss the steps to be taken for holding the 42nd summer festival at the Collectorate here on Monday evening. A flower show will form part of the summer festival.

The meeting decided to make elaborate arrangements for celebrating the festival in a fitting manner soon.

The Collector directed the officials of Horticulture Department to get ready with colourful flowers, and the Animal Husbandry Department to make arrangements for the dog show.

The integrated child development programme will be in-charge of holding the healthy baby contest and the Mahalir Thittam will conduct the rangoli competition. The other events planned included cultural programmes, and sports events.

The State Highways Department will take steps to repair the ghat road leading to the hill station. The Revenue Department was directed to create facilities for visitors.

K. Kavitha, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, Prabhu, Deputy Director of Horticulture, and other officials participated in the meeting.
