The Revenue Department is taking precautionary measures in Yanam to tackle the cyclone threat.

Minister for Revenue M.O.H. F Shahjahan held a video conferencing with Yanam’s Regional Administrator D. Subramanieswarao on Saturday.

The cyclone was expected to cross between Ongole and Kakinada.

As a result, Yanam was likely to be windy and could receive heavy rainfall, the Minister said.

He directed the regional administration to keep the shelter homes ready to evacuate people from coastal hamlets, in case of emergency.

The administration had identified 12 temporary shelter homes, including government schools and colleges. They have also stocked enough food materials.

The Minister had also directed the Health Department to have stocks of medicines in health centres in Yanam.

The Fisheries Department had warned fishermen living in Puducherry, Karaikal and Yanam regions against venturing into the sea till further announcement.

The Port Department here had raised flag number three indicating bad weather.
