A 27-year-old woman allegedly threw her three daughters into an irrigation channel at Sathapadi after a quarrel with her husband.

All the three girls died. Their mother M. Sathiyavathy later surrendered before the Sethiathoppu police.

According to the police, Manikandan, 38, and Sathiyavathy of Sathapadi near Vriddhachalam were married for eight years.

The couple had three daughters Hansika, 6, Ranjini, 5, and two-year-old Darshini.

Disturbed family

The police said that Manikandan was an alcoholic and the couple used to quarrel often.

The couple picked a quarrel a few days ago and Sathiyavathy, along with her children, went to her mother’s house at Sethiathoppu.

Sathiyavathy returned to their house on Wednesday. The couple again picked a quarrel following which she walked out of the house with her three children.

She went to Raja Vaickal, an irrigation channel, and threw the children into it, the police said.

On receiving information, the Sethiathoppu police personnel, accompanied by Fire and Rescue Services staff, fished out the bodies and sent them for post-mortem to the General Hospital in Chidambaram.
