‘Puducherry sees 57% rise in applications to foreign countries this year’

VFS Global has shifted its joint visa application centre for 13 Schengen countries to a new building opposite Rajiv Gandhi Women and Child Hospital at Ellaipillaichavady.

Steady rise

Speaking at the inauguration, Ms. Suard said there had been a steady rise in visa applications to Europe, in particular to France. People are showing keen interest to visit France for tourism, business and educational purposes, she added.

A release from VFS said there has been a 34% rise in visa applications to France from here compared with last year.

“Growth in demand for French visa from Puducherry is the third highest in South India, with Kochi recording a 51% increase and Chennai recording a 39% increase in applications from January to September this year,” the release said.

Puducherry had also witnessed a rise in visa application to other destinations. There had been 57% rise in visa applications to foreign countries this year, the release said.

Commenting on the launch, Regional Group, Chief Operating Officer, Vinay Malhotra said the new facility was opened with an aim to cater to the needs of visa applicants.

The centre will offer various services, including SMS updates, courier return service, photocopy facility and video conferencing.

There will be a dedicated website for easy access to information including visa categories, requirements, check list, applicable fees and visa status updates.
