The Consulate of France in Puducherry has made elaborate arrangements for French citizens residing here to exercise their franchise in the first phase of Presidential elections scheduled to be held on Sunday.

While Puducherry will have two polling stations, the Union Territory’s enclave in Karaikal will have one centre. The Consulate and Lycee Francais will be the polling centres in Puducherry region.

Polling would be held from 8 a.m to 7 p.m. As many as 4,564 French citizens residing in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will be eligible to cast their votes. If no candidate wins absolute majority of votes in the first round, a run-off election will be held between the top two candidates, a release from the Consulate said.

France offers its citizens who are over 18 years of age and who have registered to be in the list with the Consulate of France to vote in person in their country of residence. Such citizens are eligible to vote in Presidential elections, referendums, legislative elections, European elections and elections of the councillors of French citizens abroad, the release said.
