The Railway police on Thursday arrested three women on charges of allegedly smuggling liquor from Puducherry to Villupuram.

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Sub-Inspector of Railway police Manimaran conducted checks on the Puducherry-Villupuram passenger train at the railway station and found Usha (42), Leema (50) and Mary (47) in possession of 250 liquor bottles.

Inquiries revealed that the three women, hailing from Tirukovilur in Villupuram district, had tried to smuggle the liquor to Villupuram. The bottles were seized and handed over to the Excise Department.
