High drama prevailed at the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Research Institute (IGMCRI) at Kathirgamam here on Monday after three women fought with one another to claim the body of a man who had committed suicide on Sunday.
The police gave the name of the deceased as S. Singaravelu, 32, of Thadangam in Dharmapuri district. He had allegedly committed suicide in his rented house in Pudu Nagar at Reddiyarpalyaam on Sunday.
Singaravelu, who was working in a beauty salon, had married Sathya and Dhanalakshmi.
He recently married another woman Kavya and settled down with her in Madurai.
He returned to Puducherry last week after Kavya pressured him to register their marriage.
The body was retrieved and sent for post-mortem to the Government Medical College and Hospital.
On Monday, Sathya, Dhanalakshmi, Kavya and other relatives gathered at the hospital claiming that the body should be handed over to them.
Arguments broke out between the three women on who would receive the body.
The Reddiyarpalayam police intervened in the matter and handed over the body to Sathya.
