Teachers protest against orders

Eighty-five teachers attached to the Tamil Nadu Primary School Teachers’ Federation (TNPTF) were arrested here on Monday for burning copies of Government Orders 234 and 303 on revision of salaries, which were hitherto on par with those of Union government employees.

The protesters, led by TNPTF State vice-president A. Rahim, said primary section teachers in government schools were receiving salaries on par with their Union government counterparts. This had been revoked. The TNPTF will intensify the protest if the government did not withdraw the GOs,
