Govt. school teachers have improved quality of education: CM

Chief Minister N.Rangasamy on Saturday exhorted teachers to keep abreast of technologies so to guide the youth of the next generation.

Participating in Teachers’ Day celebrations, Mr. Rangasamy said, “Technological advancement made huge impact on the society. Even young children now-a-days have easy access to smart phones or any electronic device. They are more adept in handling them than elders. The teachers should also equip themselves in all ways to face the modern day challenges. .”

The Chief Minister said a strong foundation should be laid at the primary level. It is the duty of every teacher to make students enjoy study.

As per the wishes of parents, the government has implemented the curriculum of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) from the last year. Reiterating his government’s commitments to the standard of education at government schools, Mr. Rangasamy said, “Government has been paying due attention to improve the standard of government schools. A central inspection committee has recently appreciated the steps taken in this regard. ”

He said the success rate in government schools has been increasing every year. “Even though government schools have equipped themselves well, parents seem to prefer the private schools. In spite of this attitude government school teachers have put in their consistent efforts to improve the standard. It is definitely a praiseworthy gesture ”, he added.

He announced that special awards would be given from next year to schools which maintained clean environs. Aspects such as maintenance of clean toilets and protected drinking facility to students would be taken into looked into. He elaborated that the government had plans to award teachers who tried to improve the personality of the students.

The Chief Minister declared that steps have been initiated to fill all vacancies and as many as 900 posts would be filled up soon.

Education Minister T.T hiagarajan said Union Territory excels in the field of education due to several initiatives taken up by the Chief Minister. One such was the launching of the CBSE curriculum to develop quality. Due promotions to teachers, transparent counselling for transfers of teachers had contributed to improvement.

Mr. Rangasamy presented State Best Teachers’ Awards 2015 to 20 recipients across various categories. The awards are conferred by the government to encourage the teaching community and also to recognise their professional competence and achievement in the field of education at various levels.

Two eminent teachers who received the National Awards for the year 2013 were presented felicitated on during the Teachers’ Day Celebration.

All the retired teachers of Government and Government-aided private schools were also honoured during on the occasion. Education Secretary G. Rakesh Chandra and School Education Director L. Kumar participated in the function.
