January 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

Residents of Moolakulam on Wednesday blocked traffic at Pathukuttai on the Villupuram Road here on Wednesday to protest against the delay in shifting a motorcyclist who was knocked down by a government bus. The residents stoned the TNSTC bus going from Puducherry to Salem and blocked traffic in protest against the incident.

Police sources said Aji Mohammed (28), a painter of Kottakuppam was returning on his two-wheeler from Sultanpet when he was knocked down by a TNSTC bus at Pathukottai. The driver fled the scene.

Locals alleged that Aji died of injuries because no ambulance arrived at the accident spot to shift the injured person to the hospital for nearly half-an-hour after the accident.

They said that Aji could have been saved had timely treatment had been given to him. Senior police officials rushed to the spot and shifted the victim’s body in a police vehicle to the government hospital. They pacified the protestors following which they withdrew their protest. The Traffic police are investigating.
