Recruitment drive held

A three-day drive to recruit women Home Guards in the Puducherry police was conducted from Tuesday at the Armed Police Grounds in Gorimedu .

A senior police official said that a total of 600 candidates from the Union Territory were summoned to the Police Grounds where physical tests, including 200-metre run, long jump, high jump were conducted and height and chest measurements taken.

As many as 434 candidates appeared for the physical endurance test on the first day. As many as seven teams led by an office superintendent verified the documents of the aspirants before the physical endurance test. The police had introduced a biometric system to recruit candidates to various posts in the force to ensure a fool-proof system and avoid duplication.

Over 21,000 had applied online for recruitment to various posts. Of them around 13,763 persons had applied for the post of Home Guard and 985 had applied for the post of women constables.
