A fire broke out at a private pharmaceutical company located in the Pipdic industrial estate in Mettupalayam near here on Monday. Suspected to have been caused by electric short-circuit, the fire destroyed a part of the godown located on the ground floor in the morning. On noticing smoke coming out of the godown, workers called up the Fire Services Department.

About four fire tenders from Puducherry battled for over three hours to put out the fire. The cause for the fire and the damages would be known only after investigation, said an official.
