Pan Pari Market shopkeepers seek alternative path

March 19, 2014 02:17 pm | Updated May 19, 2016 09:50 am IST - CUDDALORE:

Shop-keepers and vegetable vendors of Pan Pari Market located near the main bus stand here squatted inside the subway under construction at the Lawrence Road level-crossing on Tuesday, demanding right to way .

They said that since the construction work was going on at snail’s pace, customers found it difficult to cross the railway track to come to the market. This had badly affected trade prospects.

The shopkeepers were also facing difficulties in loading and unloading commodities as trucks could not ply on narrow roads. Therefore, they urged the authorities to take up the subway work after providing an alternative pathway for the consumers.

As they defied police direction to give up the agitation, the police personnel chased them away.
