Oulgaret Municipality warns encroachers along arterial roads of stringent action

May 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:56 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

Oulgaret Municipality has warned of stringent action against illegal encroachments on the sides of arterial roads and cross roads. Commissioner M.S. Ramesh asked the shopkeepers to evict the encroachments themselves failing which, the municipality itself will do so without issuing prior notice.

In a press release, he said the sides of arterial roads and cross roads have been encroached in several areas of the municipality.

Public also crowd such shops and that leads to obstruction of free flow of traffic. This in turn leads to accidents.

“Hence the situation jeopardises the safety of public. Under the Puducherry Municipality Act 1973 and Rules framed thereunder, such encroachments are contrary to rules and regulations and liable to be subjected to criminal court proceedings,” said Mr. Ramesh.
