Filing of nominations for the Puducherry Lok Sabha seat began here on Saturday, minutes after the Election Commission of India issued election notification for the 16 Lok Sabha.
The notification for the Puducherry Lok Sabha constituency has also been issued in the extraordinary gazette of Union Territory of Puducherry.
However, no one filed nomination on Saturday. Though officials were seated in their respective seats, no candidate, including Independents, preferred to file their papers on the first day of filing nomination.
Tight security has been provided at the Collectorate, where the District Election Office is functioning, to regulate the crowd when candidates come for filing nomination papers.
No one was allowed to enter the premises, except those on official duty and those on specific purposes.
Strict enforcementAuthorities said that only four persons would be allowed to accompany the candidates at the RO/ARO offices.
Similarly, only three vehicles of the aspiring candidates would be allowed in the 100-metre radius of RO.
Scrutiny of nominations would be held on April 7 .
Last date for withdrawal of nominations is April 9 and the polling will take place on April 24.
Major partiesSources said that candidates of major political parties were expected to file papers on Wednesday.
It had been announced that Congress candidate V. Narayanasamy, who is seeking re-election from Puducherry, would file his papers on Wednesday.
Similarly, AINRC candidate R. Radhakrishnan is also expected to file nomination on Wednesday or Thursday.
Election authorities have intensified vehicle checks to prevent transportation of unaccounted money, gifts, liquor bottles and others. Policemen have been posted at all entry and exit points of Puducherry to monitor the movement of vehicles.
