The police have seized around 11kg of ganja and arrested several persons in the last few months, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy informed the Assembly on Thursday.

Responding to the question on ganja menace raised by AIADMK member A. Anbalagan during Zero Hour, the Chief Minister said the cannabis was being smuggled to Puducherry from Villupuram and Tiruvannamalai by road and rail routes. The police have identified Periyar Nagar, Villianur and Uppalam as the main supply centres.

The government had given clear instructions to the police to bring to book the culprits involved in the sale.

Raising the issue, Mr. Anbalagan said ganja peddlers are targeting students and they set up their business near educational institutions. He brought to the knowledge of the House the sale of other banned tobacco products and said these substances are readily available.
