Members belonging to various trade unions of the Swadeshi-Bharathi Mills staged a protest near the Legislative Assembly on Thursday demanding immediate payment of pending salaries.
The protesters claimed that over 500 workers in the mill were yet to receive salaries for the last 12 months.
‘Gratuity not paid’
V.S. Abishegam, president, All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), said the management had failed to disburse gratuity and other benefits to 277 workers who had retired from service and opted for voluntary retirement scheme.
They government should take steps to recommence operations of the mill, he said.
