The D Nagar police have booked a case of sexual harassment against an unidentified male doctor attached to the outpatient block in the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) for allegedly harassing a woman patient during medical examination on Monday.

According to the police, the 36-year-old woman patient from Pangoor went to the OPD block in Jipmer for treatment. The doctor attached to the surgery unit in OPD block allegedly made physical contact and advances with the victim under the pretext of medical examination. The woman lodged a complaint with the D Nagar police who booked a case under Section 354 A (1) (i) of IPC. Further investigations are on.

Meanwhile, resident doctors attached to the institution on Tuesday staged a dharna in front of the Emergency Block alleging that the police had foisted a case against the doctor.

The protesters also demanded that the police withdraw the case and ensure security for doctors in the hospital.
