Burglars broke into the house of a homoeopathy doctor in Krishna Nagar here and took away 57 sovereigns of gold jewellery on Tuesday. According to the police, Sadiq Peter, a businessman lived in the house with his wife Latha Shaji, a homoeopathy doctor working at the government primary health centre at Gorimedu.

On April 12, Peter went to Kerala. Latha Shaji returned home from work at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday. When she opened the main door, she was shocked to find the house ransacked. Around 57 sovereigns of gold jewellery and silver articles kept in the safe were missing. The police said that the burglars had gained entry into the house by breaking open the lock on the grille gate and the door at the back of the house. She alerted the Lawspet police about the crime on Tuesday.

The police rushed fingerprint experts and a sniffer dog to the spot. A case had been registered and investigations were on.
