The Communist Party of India (CPI) has urged Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research to take necessary steps to stop candidates from other States taking away seats in under graduate courses meant for Puducherry students.
In a memorandum to Jipmer director Rakesh Aggarwal, party local unit secretary A. M Saleem said the names of SC students from Puducherry were missing in the shortlisted candidates for admission to UG courses. The names of non-Puducherry students were found within the top 8.
As many as 31 seats under general category, 13 under backward community quota, 6 under SC quota and 4 under ST quota were reserved for local students.
Last year, the Madras High Court had to intervene to get justice for eligible local candidates.
General quota
There are also allegations that seats reserved under general quota for Puducherry students were also taken away by candidates from other States, he said.
“It is said that by producing false, fake or forged certificates, students of other States are also taken away by non-Puducherry students. Illegally encroaching quota reserved for socially weaker is blow to the poor students ,” he said. An institution such as Jipmer should not allow illegal admission, he said in the memorandum.
