In her message to the people of Puducherry on the eve of her completing two years in office, Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi on Monday said she was in Puducherry not in her personal capacity but as an administrator appointed to fulfil certain responsibilities.
“I am in Puducherry not in my personal capacity but appointed to fulfil responsibilities as an administrator, entrusted to me... institutions are bigger than individuals,” Ms. Bedi said.
Ms. Bedi said that from day one of assuming charge, “I have been concerned about certain basic issues impacting the present and future of Puducherry such as issues of water, sanitation, security and financial prudence.”
Drafting policies
Complimenting Chief Secretary Ashwani Kumar and Team Puducherry, she said: “We are now getting into the comprehensive process of drafting policies relating to various departments or updating the present policies, making standard operating procedures and a ‘vision plan’ for Puducherry for the next decade in areas of water, agriculture, skill development, education, environment, health, rural-urban development and management, tourism, transport and more for a prosperous Puducherry. Backed up by regular training, this will create accountable systems and ensure sustainability in good governance for the future.”
This vision plan would be a valuable gift to Puducherry as it would provide a roadmap for the all-round development, accountability and sustainability.
Ms. Bedi announced that Raj Nivas would organise an enabling platform called ‘Raj Nivas to Lok Nivas’ day for group participation and collaboration to promote a sense of social responsibility.
The Raj Nivas released documents in English and Tamil compiling the various press reports filed by reporters in the last two years.
