Govt. doctors go on strike in Villupuram

Emergency services remain unaffected

Over 500 doctors affiliated to the Federation of Government Doctors’ Association on Friday went on an indefinite strike in front of the Villupuram Government Medical College and Hospital at Mundiyambakkam in support of their charter of demands.

Outpatient services and elective surgeries remained affected whereas emergency services and fever management functioned as usual.

Career progression

According to Arun Sundar, district organiser of the Federation of Government Doctors’ Association (FOGDA), doctors in all government hospitals participated in the strike demanding proper implementation of the Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP) scheme with pay band-4 at the end of 13 years of service, maintenance of doctors’ posts in accordance with the number of patients, 50% service quota in postgraduate admissions and counselling for postgraduate postings.

Doctors attached to the Cuddalore District Headquarters Hospital and government hospitals in the district also participated in the strike.
