A three-day international conference on “Changing Contours of Blue Economy – Promises and Challenges (ICBE-2019) was organised by the Centre for Advanced Study in Marine Biology of Annamalai University here recently.

Prof M. Srinivasan, Director and Dean of the Centre, welcomed the gathering.

Dr. Kailash Chandra, Director Zoological Survey of India, Kolkata, in his inaugural address said that the conference will deliberate on all advancements of marine biology and aquaculture.

Prof. V. Murugesan Vice-Chancellor of Annamalai University spoke on the emerging research activities in marine biology and biotechnology areas.

He also highlighted the job opportunities offered by the Centre for Marine Biology in Marine Biology and Biotechnology.

As part of the conference, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was inked between Annamalai University and Zoological Survey of India, Kolkata. S.T. Somasundaram, Associate Professor and Organising committee member, proposed the vote of thanks.

Manakula Vinayagar

college graduation day

The fifth graduation day of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital was held here recently.

M. Dhanasekaran, Chairman and Managing Director of the college, presided over the function.

Dr. R.P. Swaminathan, Dean of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer), awarded the degrees and gold medals to students.

In his address, Mr. Swaminathan emphasised on the need for serving the rural community with sincerity and dedication. He also applauded the vision of the management of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Educational Trust by setting up a college in rural locality.

He urged young graduates to act ethically and with social responsibility. S.V. Sugumaran, vice-chairman and Dr. Narayanasamy Kesavan, secretary felicitated the students.

Lecture on trends in VLSI technology

A special guest lecture on ‘Recent Trends in VLSI Technology’ was organised by the Department of Electrical and Communication Engineering of IFET College of Engineering here recently.

T.A. Bharathwaj, Senior Technical Lead, HCL Technologies, spoke on the importance and advancement of VLSI. K.V. Raja, Chairman of the college and Mohammed Ilyas, Vice-Chairman presided over the function.
