Free rice should be given in all PDS outlets: CPI (M)

June 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

Free rice should be distributed simultaneously through all public distribution outlets, the Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPI-M), Puducherry unit urged the Government on Monday.

The party, its unit secretary R.Rajangam claimed, had been conducting series of agitations which contributed to the government withdrawing the scheme of money in lieu of free rice. He added that the government made an announcement that it would supply free rice through PDS outlets from May.

Stating that while his party welcomed the move of government for having implemented free distribution of rice from Sunday, Mr. Rajangam pointed out that the free rice had been supplied only in two centres instead of across all PDS outlets.

Insisting that the government supply free rice through all PDS outlets at the same time, the CPI-M leader said the ruling AINRC Government should implement its promise made during polls of that 25 kilo quality rice to red card holders and 15 kilo rice to yellow card holders besides seven essential groceries to them.

Mr. Rajangam also said that the AINRC Government should refrain from being “proactive” when it came to implementing the anti-people policies of Bharatiya Janatha Party-led National Democratic Government at the Centre.
