Chief Electoral Officer V. Candavelou on Thursday released the final electoral rolls for the 30 Assembly constituencies in the Union Territory. The special revision drive had been carried out on the instruction of the Election Commission from September 1 to October 31, 2018 with January 1, 2019 as the qualifying date, and about 11,234 voters were added to the electorate.
As per the final electoral rolls, the Union Territory comprising Puducherry and Karaikal districts has 9,59,566 voters — 5,06,320 women, 4,53153 men and 93 third gender. Women outnumbered men with an increase of 53,167 voters.
Mr. Candavelou told presspersons that during the special drive, 31,992 claims were received for inclusion. Of this, about 28,565 applications were accepted. As many as 19,622 Form-8 (corrections) and 8,865 Form-8-A (transposition) applications were received and disposed of.
The electoral office admitted 9,249 of the 9,396 claims received for deletion. In all, 8,082 deletions were carried out suo motu and on door-to-door verification by booth-level officers.
The final electoral rolls will be displayed at all polling stations at the office of the Electoral Registration Officers/Assistant EROs for public inspection for seven days from January 31 (excluding public holidays). The voter ID for first time voters will be issued at the polling stations from Thursday.
Mr. Candavelou has requested the electors to check their names in the electoral rolls by calling Voter Helpline 1950 (toll free) to find out the status of their name in the electoral roll.
According to the final electoral rolls, the highest number of electors in the Puducherry region are in Villianur (40,076) followed by Oulgaret (39,995) and Ariyankuppam (36,785). The lowest number of voters are in Orleanpet (23,963).
Among the five constituencies in the Karaikal region, the highest number of voters are in Karaikal North (33,679). The electorate in the enclaves of Mahe and Yanam is 29,951 and 36,316 respectively.
