Four persons, including film director Gowthaman, and a candidate from Naam Tamizhar Katchi, on Friday filed their nominations to contest the byelection to Vikravandi Assembly constituency in the district.

Murugan, 32, of Nadupatti near Uthangarai in Krishnagiri district filed his nomination as the candidate of the All India Hindu Maha Sabha.

Film director Gowthaman, 47, who is the general secretary of Tamil Perarasu Katchi, filed his nomination papers before District Supply Officer and Returning Officer M. Chandrasekharan.

Addressing the media after filing his nomination, he said that both the DMK and the AIADMK had ruined the State during their rule in the last five decades.

He said that the Dravidian parties were responsible for bringing in National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET). He said he had entered electoral politics with the sole agenda that “a Tamilian should rule the State”.

Kandasamy, 35, of Pudukottai filed his papers as Naam Tamilar Katchi nominee. Thangarasu, 62, a farmer of Vikravandi, filed his papers as an independent.
