‘Fill teacher posts in government schools’

The Puducherry UT All CENTAC Students Parents Association (PCESPA) has demanded that the government expedite the recruitment process to fill vacant posts of teachers in government schools in the Union Territory.

M. Narayanasamy, president of the association, told newspersons that though monthly tests had commenced, several government schools did not have even a single teacher to handle classes.

The lack of adequate number of teachers has affected the functioning of schools right from the beginning of the academic year.

At some schools, one or two teachers were forced to handle more than 100 students at a time. On the other hand, in many private schools, teachers have completed several chapters in the syllabus, he said.

The fall in enrolment in government schools was mainly due to lack of adequate teachers, he added. Hence, parents feel the standard of education in government schools was not up to the mark and look towards private schools.

Students of government schools were yet to get textbooks for several subjects, he said.

The complete neglect of government schools has resulted in decline in enrolment paving the way for their closure while policies seem to be favouring the private schools, he added.
