Filing of nominations to close today

Police have made elaborate security arrangements in and around the Puducherry Collectorate to avoid untoward incidents

The Collectorate, where the District Election Office is functioning, is likely to witness hectic activity on Saturday as it is the last day for filing nomination.

Union Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office V. Narayanasamy, who has been re-nominated for the Puducherry Lok Sabha constituency by the Congress, will file his papers along with senior Congress leaders on Saturday.

Similarly, All India N.R. Congress candidate R. Radhakrishnan, former Speaker of the Puducherry Assembly, is scheduled to take out a rally to the Collectorate to submit his papers. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy is expected to accompany him.

Similarly, arrangements have also been made for Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate AMH Nazeem to submit his candidature. Pattali Makkal Katchi candidate R.K.R. Anandaraman said here on Friday that he would also file his nomination. A few more Independent candidates are also expected to enter the poll fray on the last day of filing nomination.

Police have made elaborate security arrangements in and around the Collectorate to avoid untoward incidents while political parties take out rallies before filing nomination. Besides the Puducherry Armed Police, Central Armed Police Force personnel have also been posted at the Collectorate.

Meanwhile, four more Independent candidates - Dhanarasu alias Madhimaharaja, P. Bakkiaraj, V. Ramamurthi and G. Gowrishankar - filed their nomination on Friday for the Puducherry Lok Sabha constituency.

So far, 18 candidates have filed papers for the Puducherry constituency. Of them, 14 are Independent candidates. M.V. Omalingam of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and R. Viswanathan of the Communist Party of India are among those who filed papers on behalf of political parties.
