Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Tuesday said protecting the interests of farmers of Karaikal is more important than the interests of the Congress party.

Addressing reporters after calling on DMK working president M.K. Stalin in Chennai, he said, “we are not bothered about what our leaders say.”

He was responding to a question on the silence of Congress president Rahul Gandhi on the Cauvery issue.

“We are ready to sacrifice anything for the farmers,” Mr. Narayanasamy said.

The government whip, R.K.R. Ananantharaman, on Tuesday filed a contempt petition against the Centre in Supreme Court, Mr. Narayanasamy said.
