All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has sought an explanation from Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on the absence of Minister for Public Works A. Namassivayam from the Cabinet meeting on August 1.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, AIADMK floor leader in the Legislative Assembly A. Anbazhagan said the Chief Minister owes an explanation to the people about the absence of Mr. Namassivayam. “The Chief Minister speaks on every development that happens in the country. But he remains silent about a Minister skipping a Cabinet meeting. He should tell the people about the reason,” he said. Terming the all-party meeting convened by the government to obtain the views of political parties on implementing 10% reservation for economically weaker sections as a “farce,” the AIADMK leader claimed that the government had implemented the quota for admissions in the Government Medical College.

On the promise made by the territorial administration, the Centre had sanctioned 30 additional seats in the Government Medical College this year. Of the 30 seats, 17 were allotted to MBC, OBC and SC. Eight have been admitted under EWS quota, he said. “Now, the Chief Minister, after the all-party meeting, says the Cabinet will decide,” he said.
