Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi on Tuesday said the expansion plan of the pharmaceutical complany Strides Shashun Limited at Kalapet would be kept in abeyance for the time being.

Ms. Bedi in a message said she had sought a report from the Secretary to Government (Environment), P. Parthiban on the profile of the company, to examine all aspects of the issue and hear all parties and to maintain status quo until the process was complete.

The secretary would also examine files pertaining to previous approvals given to the company.

The Lieutenant Governor said the petition given by All India N R Congress legislator Ashok Anand was being closely examined.

“I am closely examining the environmental clearances given in the past and groundwater tests on record. Water is sacred and shall not be allowed to be polluted at any cost. The next step will depend on full examination of the matter,” she said.
