Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) were moved from the strongroom at the E.S. Engineering College to the 275 polling booths in the Vikravandi Assembly constituency on Sunday, under tight security.
Collector L. Subramanian and Returning Officer M. Chandrasekhar supervised the transfer of the 658 EVMs to polling booths.
Security has been tightened with the deployment of around 2,000 police personnel, including the Tamil Nadu Special Police and Central Armed Police Force at the polling stations.
Wheelchairs will be made available in 275 polling stations to assist differently abled people. As many as 24 polling stations in the constituency have been identified as critical and vulnerable. In addition to camera surveillance and polling personnel, micro-observers would be deployed to monitor the process and prevent malpractice.
Polling will be held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mobiles will not be allowed inside and vehicles will not be allowed within 200 m of the polling station, an official said.
