Electricity billing clerk held under Pocso Act

He allegedly assaulted a minor girl

The police on Wednesday arrested an employee of the Electricity Department under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012 on charges of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl in her house.

According to the police, the name of the accused was given as V. Vinoth, 26 of Abhishegapakkam.

A Bill Assessor of the Puducherry Electricity Department, he visited the house of the victim to take reading of the power meter.

The accused found the minor girl to be alone at home and asked her to get a glass of drinking water.

When the girl went inside the house, Vinoth followed her and allegedly sexually assaulted her.

The accused threatened the girl against reporting the crime.

The girl shared her trauma with her parents who returned after some time.

Medical examination

The girl was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government Women and Children Hospital for medical examination.

The police said Vinoth was arrested and remanded in custody.

A case was registered against him under Section 6 of Pocso Act.

Meanwhile, relatives of the victim blocked the Bahour-Karikalampakkam road demanding stringent action against the accused.

They ended the blockade after the police assured them of action against the culprit.
