Out of the 14 disciplines available at the Pondicherry University for medicine, the students of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College (SMVMC) have been awarded gold medals in five disciplines and have obtained the first rank in four disciplines.

Ranks, medals Overall, the students of the college have received ranks and medals in 10 out of the 14 disciplines, Chairman cum Managing Director of the Sri Manakula Vinayagar Trust M. Dhanasekaran said at the second graduation day of the college here on Wednesday.

Speaking at the function, Vice Chancellor of Pondicherry University Chandra Krishnamurthy said for medical students, post graduation is not the only option.

There are a number of avenues to explore. It is important to find your strengths before choosing a speciality, she said.

Communication skills Doctors need good communication skills to be successful in their profession. They also need to keep pace with advances in technology. Their career is therefore a continuous learning process.

It is up to the medical students of Puducherry to help Pondicherry University achieve recognition in the field of medicine around the world, she said.

140 students graduate A total of 140 students graduated on the day.
