The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has decided to support the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Congress candidates for the byelections in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

The State executive committee meeting of the Tamil Nadu unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was held here on Tuesday. They adopted a resolution expressing support to the DMK and Congress in the bypolls.

Against the AIADMK

The decision was taken to defeat the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam which functioned as a “benami,” of the Bharatiya Janata Party government at Centre. The AIADMK government implemented all anti-people policies of Centre without hesitation, the resolution pointed out.

The party welcomed the scheduled talks between Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to solve inter-State river water problems. The disputes had strained the relationship between the States and the move to resolve it was welcomed by the CPI (M).

Yechury’s attendance

CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury would attend the three-day executive committee meet on Wednesday. The gathering was attended by State secretary K. Balakrishnan, T.K. Rangarajan, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Party poliburo member K. Varadarajan.
