The Puducherry unit of Communist Party of India (CPI) has urged the Excise Department to shift an arrack outlet functioning on the Villianur Main Road in Oulgaret. The activists led by CPI State council member Sethu Selvam petitioned the Excise Department demanding the authorities to cancel the online bidding process for the arrack shop and relocate it as it had been the major cause of road accidents.

Mr. Selvam said that the arrack shop had become a nuisance with customers parking their two-wheelers on the road.

The residents had been demanding the relocation of the arrack shop for several months, but the Excise Department officials paid no heed to their demand. Though the authorities had assured to relocate the shop the Excise Department is now mulling to conduct online bidding process for the outlet. The department should cancel the bidding process and shift the arrack shop immediately, he said.
