To shed light on Primary Immunodeficiency diseases the ‘4th Introductory Course on Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases’ is being organised by the Departments of Clinical Immunology and Medicine, Jipmer, on October 18.
The course is being organised in collaboration with the Foundation for Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases, U.S. and the Indian Society for Primary Immune Deficiencies, and supported by the Medical Council of India.
Professor Sudhir Gupta who heads the Foundation for Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases is the course director.
Organisers said 13 national and international distinguished speakers will participate in the deliberations.
Primary immunodeficiency diseases cause the immune system in the body to function poorly due to defects in genetic makeup.
‘Repeated infections’
The patients are ‘predisposed to developing repeated infections, which can be life threatening and significantly impair quality of life,’ said the organisers in a press note issued here.
Awareness about the disorders is low, they said.
The course would enable delegates to learn about diagnosis and management of these diseases. They will also get a chance to interact with leading national and international experts in the field, said the press note.
