The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has criticised the Congress and the Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi for the impasse in the distribution of free Pongal gifts to all ration cardholders.

Addressing a press conference here, A. Anbalagan said both the elected government and the Lt. Governor were equally responsible for the stalemate in distributing free Pongal gifts to the people.

He said the government had failed to convene a Cabinet meeting to send another recommendation to the Lt. Governor demanding distribution of free Pongal gifts to all cardholders.

Mr. Anbalagan accused Ms. Bedi of twisting the Madras High Court order on the Pongal gift scheme initiated by Tamil Nadu government.

He said the court had commented only on the cash distribution by the AIADMK government.

Ms. Bedi had “twisted” facts to deny free Pongal items to all ration cardholders in the Union Territory, he said.
