Terming the Budget presented by Finance Minister Piyush Goyal as “election oriented,” Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Friday said the Budget was a “panic” reaction by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

Reacting to the Budget, the Chief Minister said the Prime Minister had not bothered about the welfare of farmers in the last four-and-a-half years. “He has become panicky after the electoral losses in the recent Assembly elections,” he said. The income support scheme for farmers and monthly pension for people aged above 60 in the unorganised sector would become another “empty promise.” The Prime Minister during the run up to the last Lok Sabha elections had promised to deposit ₹15 lakh in the bank accounts of people after unearthing black money from Swiss banks.

“Like the promise given during 2014 election campaign, the present assurance to farmers and people in the unorganised sector will turn out to be another hollow promise,” he said.

Bedi hails Budget

Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi has termed the Budget as “comprehensive and inclusive.” In a message, Ms. Bedi said the Budget covered all sections of society and ensured transparency. “Covers all sections of society. All Centrally sponsored schemes remain intact. Ball now in the court of administration to deliver so as to take the country forward,” he said.
