Lieutenant-Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Sunday hosted a tea party on the lawns of Raj Nivas to mark the Tamil New Year and Chitra Pournami.

Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, Home Minister A. Namassivayam, Minister for Civil Supplies A.K. Sai J. Saravana Kumar, AINRC and BJP legislators, Chief Secretary Ashwani Kumar, AIADMK leaders and senior officials attended the party. DMK and Congress legislators and leaders of the Left parties boycotted the function.

Opposition leader R. Siva, in a statement, said the party’s legislators stayed away from the event as a mark of protest against the Lieutenant-Governor’s style of functioning which, he claimed, was dictated by the BJP.

PCC chief A.V. Subramanian said the two Congress legislators did not attend the meeting to protest against the undemocratic functioning of the Lt. Governor.
